The Institute for Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing (SI) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremen, is primarily dedicated to research questions in the context of the use of quantum technologies and quantum sensors and develops quantum measurement techniques for innovative applications, including the realisation of prototype solutions.

What to expect

In our Relativistic Modelling department, we support sensor development – particularly for space missions – throughout their entire lifecycle, from the concept phase right through to data analysis. To this end, we develop software packages for modelling satellites and their orbits, for systems engineering, for experiment control and for final data evaluation. The aim is to provide digital twins for different mission phases. You will further develop our existing software tools in the field of quantum technology modelling. In doing so, you will lay the foundations for the design of future satellite missions in the fields of quantum communication and quantum-based sensor technology.

Your tasks

  • Analysis of the current state of research on the topics of quantum communication and quantum-based inertial sensor technology
  • Development of concepts and models for the application of various quantum technologies on satellites
  • Implementation of mathematical and physical models into the existing simulation library using various programming languages (C++, Python, Matlab, Simulink)
  • Testing and documentation of the developed software routines
  • Independent organisation of your own workflows using agile project management
  • Presentation of research results at conferences and publication in specialist journals

Your Profile

  • Completed academic degree (Master’s / University Diploma) in the natural sciences (e.g. specialising in physics) or engineering (e.g. specialising in aerospace engineering)
  • Expertise in the field of orbital dynamics modelling
  • Knowledge of quantum mechanics or quantum information
  • Very good knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience in using version control with GitHub/GitLab
  • Experience in using the programming languages Python and C/C++
  • Very good written and spoken English skills

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.

We look forward to getting to know you!
